With Christmas just around the corner, it is just about time for one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season: The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting. Although for some of us the Thanksgiving Turkey is still out there, fresh and there’s still left-over Halloween candy stashed away in the fridge, The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting event is rather affectionately seen as a signal for the holiday season to begin in New York.
This year’s Rockefeller Christmas Tree is a Norway Spruce from State College, Pennsylvania. It is a towering 75 foot tall and was cut and ready to transport by November 9th. You can, in fact, see the tree before the lighting too as the scaffolding was off and the Swarovski star; made of around 25,000 crystals, had already topped it. Additionally, the tree is decorated with countless LED Christmas lights.
Who Is Performing?
The event will be taking place at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th and 51st streets and Fifth and Sixth avenues in Manhattan. Tonight’s entertainment will be provided by several popular performers, including:
- Brett Eldredge
- Jennifer Nettles
- Leslie Odom Jr.
- Gwen Stefani
- Neil Diamond
- Sarah McLachlan
- Tori Kelly
- The Radio City Rockettes
- The Tenors
The best part of the event is that the concert is open to all and absolutely free of cost to the general public. However, it is only on a first come, first serve basis so if you’re planning on watching it in person, make sure that you are there early!
