Hulu Live: Now Available

Hulu Live

Hulu just officially announced the release of their new live steaming service called Hulu Live. Customers that want to access live TV content from channels such as ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and more can upgrade to a $39.99 monthly package. This new service is currently in beta and includes Hulu’s current $7.99 monthly on-demand service, which offers over 3,500 TV and film titles in addition to live TV channels.

What is included in the service?

The beta service comes with an entirely new interface for both mobile devices and TVs. Whether you are a new Live TV subscriber or an existing basic Hulu subscriber you’ll use the same app. Subscribers of the new service will receive up to six individual Hulu viewer profiles. Also included is up to 50 hours of cloud DVR storage and two simultaneous streams at no extra cost. This does lag behind Sling TV’s cloud DVR service which offers 100 hours of storage but for an additional cost users can upgrade to 200 hours of storage. The service also offers Kids Mode, which allows parents to set up a viewing profile for their children so they can enjoy access to Hulu’s full array of kid-friendly programming without the ability to browse the rest of Hulu’s catalog.

What channels are included?

Hulu Live Channels
Hulu’s service will include all four major network broadcasts and will be available in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Chicago. Unfortunately, due to the complex nature of local broadcasting agreements, Hulu is not able to provide the big four networks nationwide and will only be available in select markets.

Currently, all stations owned and operated by companies invested in Hulu will be available. This includes The Walt Disney Company, Comcast (NBCUniversal,)  21st Century Fox, CBS affiliates, Turner Networks, A+E Networks, and Scripps Networks.

Does Hulu Live carry regional sports networks?

Hulu states that they will offer regional sports networks in many areas. However, at this time, it is unclear which markets those will be. Blackout rules continue to be a challenge for all TV providers. Hulu Live will offer a feature that allows you to select your favorite sports teams and automatically record game to your cloud DVR.
