The Ultimate Fighting Championship will head back home to Las Vegas on March 3 for the UFC 222 card. The event will be headlined by the most dominant female fighter in the history of MMA, Cris Cyborg – who will defend her featherweight title against Invicta Bantamweight champion Yana Kunitskaya.
The action starts at 9:30 pm EST.
Cris Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya (featherweight championship fight)
Cyborg always puts on an impressive performance every time she steps inside the cage. She’s knocked out three of her last four opponents, and she looked extremely disciplined during her last outing against Holly Holm, picking her apart for 25 minutes.
Yana will certainly have her hands full when she makes her UFC debut on Saturday. The Invicta champion has racked up her share of impressive finishes, but she’s never faced anyone remotely close to Cyborg’s level.
Cyborg will be the bigger woman when the two face off, and she should enjoy a huge advantage in the striking department. Without a doubt, this is the Brazilian’s fight to lose. A Kunitskaya victory would be one of the biggest upsets in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s history. Cyborg is a -1500 favorite heading into UFC 222.
Frankie Edgar vs. Brian Ortega
Get ready for fireworks when these two collide inside the Octagon. Edgar was originally scheduled to face featherweight champion Max Holloway, but the latter was pulled off the card due to a leg injury. No worries though, Brian Ortega should make the fight just as entertaining if not better.
Edgar is a time-tested UFC veteran who brought an end to UFC legend BJ Penn’s lightweight title reign. He’s fast, his boxing is very sharp, and his wrestling skills are just as impressive.
Ortega doesn’t have the wrestling credentials Edgar has, but he more than makes up for it with his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Ortega will also enjoy a healthy reach advantage when these two meet inside the Octagon, and his striking steadily improves every outing. Ortega is certainly a live dog heading into this contest and it wouldn’t be that surprising if he manages to pull off the upset.
