The Vikings Look to Build off Dramatic Win Against The Saints

You can bet your last dollar every defender on the Philadelphia Eagles has spent lots of time watching tapes of the “Seven Heaven” play that lead to the Stefon Diggs last-second touchdown that brought the New Orleans Saint’s postseason run to an unexpected end.

The Minnesota Vikings and the Eagles are set to meet on Jan. 21 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The NFC Championship Game starts at 6:40 pm EST. Fox will broadcast the event live.

Diggs along with Adam Thielen were a major part of the Vikings’ offense during the game against the Saints and the Birdmen’s offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will likely lean on them once again when they collide with the Saints. At this point in the season, these two have established themselves as reliable assets on the offensive end.

The Eagles’ run defense has been one of the best all season long, making it very hard for opponents to run the ball up the middle. That means an effective passing game is even more crucial for the Eagles on Sunday.

Expect the Vikings to attack the flanks as they look for a weakness in the Eagles’ extremely stingy defense.

Quarterback Case Keenum will have his work cut out for him on Sunday. He struggled with avoiding pressure during the entire season, and he was sacked seven times by the Saints who aren’t exactly one of the best pass-rushing teams in the league.

The Eagles’ defense, on the other hand, have been very effective pressuring opposing quarterbacks, so Brandon Graham and the rest of Philadelphia’s defenders will be eager to get their hands around him.

Nick Foles might be a backup quarterback, but he was able to effectively manage the game for the Eagles during the Divisional Round, completing 23 out of 30 passes for 246 yards without giving up the ball. He was sacked only once during the contest. A testament to Foles’ ability to get rid of the ball quickly and the Eagles’ offensive line.

Foles’ performance last Sunday becomes even more impressive when you factor in the fact he didn’t get much help from the Eagles running crew. Jay Ajayi and LeGarrette Blount – the Eagles’ primary running backs – rushed for only 73 yards on 24 carries.

Despite their struggles running the ball, the Eagles remained committed to their ground game against the Falcons. You can expect more of the same against Minnesota.

The Vikings are -3 favorites heading into the contest.
