DirecTV NOW launched a little over a year ago on November 30, 2016 offering a streaming service with over 100 channels. Just as the Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming service celebrated turning one year old, on December 5th DirecTV NOW announced that their subscriber base has surpassed the 1 million subscriber threshold.
The new service made a big splash when they dove into the streaming TV pool one year ago. They managed to attract over 200,000 customers within the first month of launching. More people signed on at a steadily rate in the months following the release making it a major contender in the OTT streaming arena.
In response to the major achievement, David Christopher, president, AT&T Entertainment Group said, “This milestone is an incredible testament to the thousands of hours many people spent working to bring this product online and continually improving it during the past year,”.
DirecTV NOW: Plans For 2018
The people at DirecTV NOW worked hard in their debut year and they don’t plan on taking a break in the new year. Here’s what you can look forward to from DirecTV NOW in the year 2018:
- A DVR in the cloud to record your shows and access virtually anywhere
- 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) video
- Capacity for more than 35,000 titles on demand
- Individual profiles
- Adding an additional concurrent stream
