Video: AirTV Player & Adapter Unboxing
Hey, everybody, it’s Nick from CutTheCord.com. and today we’re taking a look at the new AirTV Player and adapter from Sling TV.
So What exactly is the AirTV?
The AirTV is a $100 streaming TV player similar in many ways to the Roku Premier and Amazon Fire TV boxes, but with one major difference.
With the AirTV and AirTV adapter, we can easily watch local over the air television broadcasts from networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, and PBS. At the same time, we can also access our streaming and on-demand channels.
In-order to watch local networks through the box, you’ll need two things:
- The $40 AirTV adapter
- Digital ota antenna
So why do we love this feature?
Well, the answer is pretty-simple. Streaming services like Sling TV and Hulu have hit major roadblocks when attempting to negotiate deals with the many separate local TV affiliates.
This has resulted in spotty market coverage and availability, particularly outside of large metropolitan areas.
The AirTV basically solves that problem all together.
The AirTV was developed by Sling TV and runs a version of Android, so there is an inherent preference towards the Sling Service, which boots on startup.
However, the AirTV still works without a Sling subscription.
You’ll have full access to the Google play store, which still makes this box a good option for running services like Hulu or Netflix.
With that, let’s have a look at the AirTV Player and Adapter.
